Delta Hearts of Gold is a "Community Partner" with the Pet Partners program.
As a Community Partner located in Fort Worth, Texas we volunteer, train, evaluate as well as mentor our therapy animal teams.
In the spring of 2007, a group of animal enthusiasts, who had been involved in Animal Assisted Therapy and Animal Assisted Activities for a number years, got together and discussed creating a local Delta Society Pet Partners organization in the Dallas / Fort Worth Metroplex area.
In November of 2007, we formed Delta Hearts of Gold, Inc. a Texas non-profit corporation with a 501 (3) (c) Income tax exemption certificate. Our prerequisite is that all are members in good standing of Pet Partners, International; a nonprofit human service organization uniting animal-facilitated therapy teams with people needing their services. We now have 30 members, 36 Pet Partners, and continue to grow.
We are now serving the Greater Fort Worth/ Tarrant County Texas Areas:
Bedford, Benbrook, Flower Mound, Fort Worth, Granbury, Hudson Oaks, Mansfield, Mineral Wells, Southlake, Weatherford, and Waxahachie. We also have active group members in Taos and Red River, NM.
Programs, crisis relief, and research involvement have included:
Azle ISD, Azle Manor Nursing Home and Rehab, Broadway Plaza City View, Cook Children’s Medical Center, Daggett Montessori, Fort Worth Crisis Management with Fire & Police Departments, FWISD Elementary School Career Days, Garden Terrace Alzheimer’s Center of Excellence, Heritage Oaks Nursing Home, James L. West Center, McKinney Bible Church, Plaza Medical Center, T.C.U. TCC-River Campus, The Stayton, UNT De-Stress Days, Trinity Terrace, and Union Gospel Mission. We have assisted in a research study at Cancer Care Services on the effects of pet-assisted therapy on cancer patients undergoing treatment and another study with Alliance For Children - New Jersey on the effects of therapy dogs during forensic interviews. Our club president, Dianne, is also registered on the HOPE Animal Assisted Crisis Response Team.
